A Sip of Truth in a Divided Time: When Grief Crosses the Aisle

Lately, the news has been hitting a little different. It’s not about who’s right or who’s wrong anymore, but something in my spirit knows—this is bigger than politics. This is about life. About breath. This is about the image of God in every human being.

When someone’s life is taken, especially in a public and violent way, we should all feel that. We should all pause. We should all pray. The truth is, whether you agreed with his views or not, the death of Charlie Kirk is a loss. And honestly, it’s a loss for a nation that’s forgotten how to grieve across lines. We’ve gotten so used to the division that we don’t know how to mourn without conditions. But the Word of God doesn’t give us that option.

“Mourn with those who mourn.” Romans 12:15

This isn’t just a political moment. It’s a spiritual one.

And while we’re on the subject of grief, can we talk about how this tragedy was handled? The raw, graphic images of the shooting were everywhere. Replayed on social media with no warning, no filter, and absolutely no regard for who might be watching. It was hard enough for us adults to see, but for our children? That trauma was forced into their minds. No consent, no preparation, and zero care.

My heart is just deeply disappointed by the world’s growing appetite for this kind of desensitization. We’re not trying to shield our kids from reality; we’re just asking for the choice of when and how to expose them to this kind of raw hate. These images weren’t shared to inform. They were shared for clicks, for views, for viral impact. And baby, that is not ministry. That is exploitation.

Let this be a holy interruption. A moment to remember that eternity is real, and radical, Spirit-led love is still our highest calling. Isaiah 9:6 says, “And the government shall be upon His shoulders.” That means no matter who’s in office, God is still in control. He’s still speaking. He’s still healing. And He’s still coming back.

So today, I’m submitting it all to Him. My confusion, my grief, my need to understand. I’m asking the Lord to minister to us in this season of chaos and division.

Heal our land. Heal our hearts. Heal our homes.

Let our words be a witness. Let our lives be love.

In His Name.
